Terre di Balbia, in Altomonte, produces wine of excellent quality, rarely seen outside Calabria.
Born from a partnership between Friulian winegrower, Gianni Venica, and native Calabrese Silvio Caputo, Terre di Balbia is in the perfect location for growing the important native red grape, Magliocco.
The estate covers 52 hectares, of which 10 are planted to vineyards and produces two key wines; Balbium and Seramonte. Balbium, 80/20 Magliocco/Sangiovese has distinct flavours of red ripe fruit with sweet spice aromas. Seramonte, 50/50 Sangiovese/Magliocco, is aged in oak for 18 months and is full bodied with a balanced spicy finish. 200 cases are produced annually.
Terre di Balbia produces fine quality wines that are strongly tied to both their territory and their producers.
